MISTER G.

This little book with gold letters is the setting for a mini retrospective dedicated to the work of Gilbert Garcin. This re-release brings a selection of 101 photographs related to his eighteen years of photography this year. The first volume of Mister G., there being no rééditons, Editions Filigranes published a new version enriched with twenty unpublished photographs. The text of Natacha Wolinski was written especially for this book.

The images in which he depicts himself are impregnated with humor and absurdity. He tinkers small stagings with glue and scissors and introduces himself (his image) in this surreal scenery. In his photographs, Garcin poses as an ordinary 'Mr. Everybody,' dressed in an old overcoat. By placing himself, via the character he embodies, in absurd and inextricable situations, he invites us to ponder such philosophical quandaries as time, solitude and the weight of existence.
